@George-K said in Kellyanne Conway leaving: She's white ("White?") and privileged, so, of course, she can quit. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/08/24/kellyanne-conway-quit-coronavirus-trump-mama-drama-column/5621955002/ Isn’t the daughter’s quote the superior example of white privilege? “My mother’s job ruined my life to begin with,” she wrote.

@jon-nyc said in If Biden is elected I’m leaving the country...: I know people planning huge trips post Covid. For me though, I just want to get back to my typical travel schedule. I was telling a coworker today that once a vaccine is truly being disseminated on a wide scale, we could see a euphoric societal reaction maybe similar to the end of WWII or something. The only problem is it won’t be a single day; because with mixed vaccine claims, distribution issues, and tens of millions of anti-vaccine folks, the celebration might just be spread out over 6-12 months.

@Copper said in Reinfected: 1 guy was reinfected, and he remains asymptomatic That is roughly .000000004 % of total cases To bad for the 1 guy, who feels fine I say that we should take no action based on this case Seems like it’s more than one, but this is the first to be definitively shown by sequencing both viruses. But I agree there’s no particular action to be taken on this.

@Axtremus said in The Crime: In this thread, the younger folks are the cautious ones while the older ones seem more keen to roll the dice with public health. My parents are more or less completely throwing caution to the wind. They're taking almost no precautions whatsoever. They also put up with career bullshit the likes of which I still couldn't fully understand if I tried, and their goal is to by God enjoy their retirement. That's their right, and I never guilt them about that choice. I just FaceTime with them once a week and ask them to stay safe and don't trust the assholes out there.

@Loki said in Suppressing the negative?: Both assumptions are entirely reasonable. Why would anybody at this point also not think that likes/dislikes on social media are like robo calls? They are and they aren't. Everyone on social media has to deal with some percentage of (1) fake likes, follows, whatever, from bots, and (2) lost likes, follows, whatever, from algorithm suppression. But as you gain popularity, (1) increases while (2) decreases. That's especially true on YouTube, where the platform suppresses the hell out of your channel for about 6 months to a year when you just start out. They do that because they don't want to publicize a channel that's not going to last. They want to see first that you're a consistent uploader, then they let you be more found by others. After that comes more exposure in the recommended column.

I agree with everybody else. It's difficult to imagine any circumstance where a front-loaded 10k/year could replace a pension. If one is only comparing financial stuff.

@bachophile said in "Hey Siri, play the Well-Tempered Clavier on Apple Music": Romantic? Goddamn foot was nailed to the pedal. Yeah, that was pretty obvious in the recording as well. But, as I said, I really liked the phrasing in those two examples.

No, but they can also continue to work at other jobs. To determine whether this is good or bad you would have to see the individual offererings.
